Friendly one-to-one tuition courses at your home or office.
Master your camera and shooting routines for beautiful photos!
A PhotoBoffin Lightroom tuition course introduces you to this industry-standard software package and mostly concentrates on image file management and post-processing images with the "Develop" module. You'll learn how to bring out the full potential of your RAW files (and to a lesser extent, JPEGs) quickly and easily, applying local and global adjustments to present the image at its best!
I cover most areas of Greater Manchester and Cheshire including Irlam, Cadishead, Warrington and districts, Eccles, Worsley, Monton, Walkden, Swinton, Pendlebury, Salford, Manchester, Tyldesley, Leigh, Bolton, Horwich, Bury, Heywood, Rochdale, Oldham, Ashton-Under-Lyne, Hyde, Stockport, Wilmslow, Trafford, Urmston, Flixton, Carrington, Stretford, Sale, Altrincham, Wythenshawe Hale, Bowdon and Lymm.
Further afield, I also cover Knutsford, Holmes Chapel, Northwich, Runcorn, Widnes, Halton, Huyton, St Helens, Newton-le-Willows and Wigan.
See the Extended Area Coverage section for appointment options and costs in Merseyside, Lancashire, West Yorkshire, the Peak District / Derbyshire / North Staffordshire, Cheshire borders and North Shropshire.
Appointments are of either two, three or four hours duration and take place at your home, office or other prearranged location.
Costs are the same if you wish to share tuition with a partner, friend or relative; and for more tuition, you can save money with a 3x3 Photography Tuition Course.
On Your Computer: Ideally, you would download and install the trial version of LightroomCC Classic on your computer before the appointment. If you're not sure how to do this, we can do it during the appointment.
Or On My Laptop: Alternatively, we can use my laptop which has Lightroom 6 installed.
We start by importing one or more of your image files into Lightroom and observing the default nested folder structure and options. Next, having looked at the various photo viewing options, we select an image to work with and open it in the Develop module.
Once you're happily conversant with the Develop module, we take a look at exporting purpose-dedicated JPEG files for the web and printing.
We can also cover workflow; image file management; image ratings, keywords and metadata; organising images with "Collections"; the Map module, which allows you to locate and log where each photo was taken; and the Print module for making prints directly from the RAW preview.
Lightroom is a comprehensive RAW development application - although you can use it to edit JPEGs too.
Rather than graphically editing pixels (as with Photoshop and similar), Lightroom allows us to preview a "recipe" of RAW file development before the pixels are ever created, which means it's totally non-destructive because RAW data remains unchanged. A list of your adjustments (the recipe) is simply recorded in Lightroom's database, and you can "cook" any number of JPEGs using the recipe at any time. You can go back and change the recipe at any time too!
To me, this approach is far easier, simpler and more efficient than pixel editing. Using layers and other graphics-oriented approaches just seems over-complicated and outdated.
Lightroom's Develop module has a stack of global adjustment tools - exposure, highlights, shadows, contrast, clarity and so on; individual hue, saturation and luminance adjustments; sharpening and noise reduction; a cloning tool to take out unwanted distractions; one-click Adobe lens profiling and perspective correction, and more - together with various locally selected processing options.
Lightroom is refreshingly easy to use and, at the same time, offers powerful and comprehensive post-processing for your photography. With my one-to-one tuition and guidance, you'll quickly master this great RAW development software.
Optimise your RAW files: You will have more scope to develop images with less noise if you optimise exposure when taking the shot. Together with setting your camera up with its best options for RAW, I can show you how this is done.
Photo critique: As well as teaching you how to develop beautiful images with Lightroom, I can give some constructive critique of your photos if you wish too
