Master your camera and shooting routines for beautiful photos!
A PhotoBoffin advanced photography tuition course is for people who know the basics and wish to further their understanding and ability. The course is appropriate for most genres - landscape, nature, abstract, architecture, travel, portraiture and studio.
With this one-to-one (or two) workshop, you'll easily master manual camera settings, exposure and optimisation, focusing and depth of field, RAW workflow and post-processing with Adobe Lightroom or DxO PhotoLab, and everything required to capture and create beautiful images using the full potential of contemporary digital photography.
I cover most areas of Greater Manchester and Cheshire including Irlam, Cadishead, Warrington and districts, Eccles, Worsley, Monton, Walkden, Swinton, Pendlebury, Salford, Manchester, Tyldesley, Leigh, Bolton, Horwich, Bury, Heywood, Rochdale, Oldham, Ashton-Under-Lyne, Hyde, Stockport, Wilmslow, Trafford, Urmston, Flixton, Carrington, Stretford, Sale, Altrincham, Wythenshawe Hale, Bowdon and Lymm.

See the Extended Area Coverage section for appointment options and costs in Merseyside, Lancashire, West Yorkshire, the Peak District / Derbyshire / North Staffordshire, Cheshire borders and North Shropshire.
Appointments are of three or four hours duration and take place at your home, office or other prearranged location.
Costs are the same if you wish to share tuition with a partner, friend or relative.
We start by reviewing your current experience and technical understanding; then we discuss your preferred genres and priorities. Once we have enough to work with, we proceed with tuition in the appropriate area - and you get to ask lots of questions too!
The RAW file format and all its advantages. How to use the histogram to set exposure for the best quality RAW file; this approach helps to deal with high contrast scenes, combat noise and obtain the highest quality post processed images.
Aperture/ shutter priority and fully manual: The difference in the routines required with each of these exposure modes, which will be best for you and why.
Setting focus: Take charge of focusing, independently of exposure, with the single focus point: Depth of field (DOF) - how to maximise it so both near and far are optimally sharp; also, prioritised and compositional focusing using a deliberately shallow depth of field to create"bokeh" (soft, out of focus areas) in the composition. When to use manual focus.
Lenses and properties: Lenses have important properties such as field of view, magnification and compression which, when you understand them, can be exploited to suit each image.
Filters: The few useful ones for digital - when and how to use them, and whether or not to bother.
Tripods and stability: When you'll actually need to use a tripod - which isn't so often for most photographers with a modern camera equipped with optical image stabilisation.
Promotional myths dispelled: Camera types and formats explained - pros and cons of each. You don't need expensive equipment to take great photos!
RAW workflow: Non-destructive editing of archival RAW files - optimal post-processing / development of each image using Adobe Lightroom or DxO PhotoLab and "exporting" purpose dedicated images for internet and print.
Composition: The most important part of photography is content! There's more to it than "the rule of thirds"; I'll explain all.
Photo critique: And I can give some constructive critique of your work if you wish too
